At Joe Photography, we are not only storytellers through the lens—we are also advocates for social justice, child protection, and community empowerment. On July 30th, 2025, we were honored to provide official event photography during the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, held in Nakuru County, Kenya.
This significant event was organized by Frolics of Hope Africa, a child-focused NGO, in partnership with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, which is responsible for children’s welfare and anti-trafficking initiatives across the county.
The 2025 theme focused on raising awareness about human trafficking and promoting the protection of vulnerable groups—especially children—from exploitation, a cause close to our hearts. This opportunity allowed us to document a powerful day of activism, learning, and hope.

Why This Day Matters: A Global Call to Action
The World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, marked annually on July 30th, is a United Nations initiative aimed at raising awareness about human trafficking and promoting the protection of victims’ rights. In Kenya, where thousands of children and youth are at risk of trafficking for labor, domestic servitude, or sexual exploitation, this day is especially important.
By bringing together community leaders, government officials, local NGOs, educators, and young people, the event aimed to:
- Educate the public about the signs and risks of trafficking.
- Celebrate local efforts to fight trafficking and support survivors.
- Encourage collaboration between stakeholders for better prevention and response.
The Role of Frolics of Hope Africa and Ministry of Labour and Social Protection
Our partners in this event, Frolics of Hope Africa, are known for their unwavering work in child protection, education, and advocacy. They have been instrumental in supporting orphans and vulnerable children in Nakuru and beyond.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection oversees policies and programs aimed at protecting children from exploitation. Their involvement in the 2025 event ensured that there was governmental backing and coordination across various child protection agencies and local authorities.
As photographers, we were proud to work alongside these institutions, documenting every meaningful moment—from the early morning awareness march to the closing speeches.

Event Highlights Captured by Joe Photography
Here’s a glimpse into some of the key moments we covered during the event:
1. Awareness March through Nakuru Town
Hundreds of participants walked through the streets of Nakuru with banners, placards, and posters bearing anti-trafficking messages. The mood was both somber and energetic, with youth groups, schoolchildren, police, and local leaders joining in. The march attracted public attention and spurred impromptu engagements with onlookers about the dangers of trafficking.
We captured:
- Wide-angle shots of the march in action
- Close-ups of children holding placards with powerful messages
- Emotional moments where survivors shared their stories
2. Opening Ceremony and Speeches
At the event’s venue, government officials including the County Children’s Officer and representatives from the Ministry of Labour addressed the audience. They emphasized the need for increased vigilance, community reporting, and survivor support services.
Our team captured:
- High-resolution portraits of speakers
- Audience reactions, especially from youth and community leaders
- Group shots of participants and dignitaries
3. Cultural Performances
Performances included drama, spoken word poetry, and music by local school groups and youth organizations. The performances focused on themes of freedom, justice, and child protection.
Photography highlights:
- Action shots of performers on stage
- Emotional expressions from young poets and actors
- Interactive moments between performers and the audience
4. Information Booths and Exhibitions
Various organizations, including child protection NGOs and health services, set up booths offering information and free resources. These booths offered helpline numbers, counseling services, and awareness brochures.
Our coverage included:
- Visuals of brochures and resources being handed out
- Staff engaging with visitors
- Informative signage and branding of partner organizations
Impact of the Event: Creating Visual Awareness
Our photography was more than just documentation—it became a tool for advocacy. The images we captured were shared across social media, news outlets, and official government platforms, helping spread the anti-trafficking message beyond Nakuru.
By capturing the faces of resilience, hope, and solidarity, we helped amplify the voices of those fighting trafficking at the grassroots level.
Why Advocacy Photography Matters
As a photography company, we often cover weddings, birthdays, and corporate events. But advocacy photography is one of the most impactful areas of our work.
Events like World Day Against Trafficking in Persons highlight the power of images to:
- Inspire action: Photos of youth activism or survivor stories move people to support causes.
- Document progress: Images serve as records for organizations to show the impact of their programs.
- Raise funds: NGOs use professional photos in funding proposals, reports, and awareness campaigns.
- Educate: Visual storytelling helps simplify complex issues like trafficking for the general public.
